Subway Searches
New York City police now search people’s bags at some subway stations to stop terrorist attacks. Police officers must get a warrant, written permission from a judge, to search your home. Police do not get warrants to search subway passengers.
Some people feel subway searches protect New Yorkers from terrorist attacks. Other people feel that they have a right to privacy. They feel that subway searches invade their privacy.
